Dent is located on the intersection of State Highway 108 and County Road 35 in North Central Ottertail County. Early on Dent was a major wood shipping center and industries included a lumberyard, creamery, feed mill and a barrel factory.

Lake Paul is north of Dent. It is 319 acres with a maximum depth of 82 feet. Fish for Walleye, Northern Pike, Bluegill, Rock Bass, Crappie and Large Mouth Bass.
Dead Lake is south of Dent. It is 7901 acres with a maximum depth of 68 feet. Fish for Walleye, Northern Pike, Bluegill, Rock Bass, Crappie and Large Mouth Bass.
