"World's Largest Pelican" Pelican Rapids is located at the intersection of State Highway 59 and State Highway 108 in the NW corner of Ottertail County. Like so many early communities, Pelican Rapids looked to the railroad for growth and while the railroad did extend north to Pelican Rapids from Fergus Falls, it never continued northward and remained a dead line until it was removed. Since then, Pelican Rapids has gained in agricultural strength with their turkey processing plant. Pelican Rapids is also home to the "World's Largest Pelican", Pelican Pete. Pelican Rapids School District # 548 offers their over 1000 students a small student to teach ratio, after-school enrichment programs, extracurricular activities and college courses at the High School level. |
