"World's Largest Loon"

Vergas is located in Northern Ottertail County at the intersection of State Highway 228 and County 4 & 17. Vergas was originally the village of Altona, but when the Soo Line Railroad came through in 1903 they names the station Vergas and the name stuck.

The Vergas motto is "Large enough to serve you and small enough to know you". Vergas has a variety of businesses, including bank, gas/convenience store, hardware and grocery store. Services include Vergas Fire and Rescue and Vergas Post Office.

Schools: Children from Vergas attend school in Frazee. Busing is available. Frazee schools are K-12 education with extracurricular activities.

Vergas is home to the World's Largest Loon. The Loon is the Minnesota State Bird and Vergas is proud of the 20' statue of the Loon in Vergas City Park.

Early August finds the residents of Vergas and the surrounding area celebrating Looney Daze. Activities include parade, road rally, arts & crafts fair, flea market, street dance, 5K run/walk, bingo, pig roast and more. All events are held in the community of Vergas.

Did you know that Maple Syrup is produced from the woods around Vergas? Each year Vergas celebrates their annual Maple Syrup Fest.

Vergas is surrounded by Minnesota Lakes. Long Lake, Rose Lake, Lawrence Lake, Loon Lake, Coffee Lake, West & East Spirit, Dora Lake and Sybil Lake are all within minutes of Vergas.
